Simple Ways to Add Mindfulness to the School Day

No need to overhaul your routine to introduce mindfulness activities for students. Start with just one idea and build from there:

  • Introduce 'Mood Monday' - kicking off the week with a Mood Classroom lesson to set a positive tone.

  • Try a lesson after lunch, recess, or conflict as a reset

  • Let students choose their favorite lesson to lead as a class activity

  • Create a mindfulness corner using The Mood Tools App for independent practice

Why Mindfulness Matters for Students

Teachers have reported higher rates of classroom anxiety, difficulty with attention, and social disconnection. Mindfulness in the classroom goes beyond helping students feel calm. It’s a research-backed practice proven to improve focus, reduce anxiety, and support positive classroom behavior. This is especially important since post-covid, teachers say classroom anxiety and attention issues are off the charts. For many children, especially those who are still developing emotional regulation skills, mindfulness practices for students offer a concrete, accessible way to manage stress, overstimulation, and uncertainty during the school day.
