Middle Thinking
Sometimes we have extreme or black and white thinking, which means thinking something is either only good or only bad—when it’s usually actually something in the middle. For example: 'I am in a fight with a friend, so I’m a bad person.' Or ‘I can’t do this math problem, I must be terrible at math.’ Instead, try to think in a more moderate or middle way. ‘I am in a fight, but fights happen. It doesn’t mean I'm a bad friend.’ ‘I don’t get this math problem, but I’ll keep trying. I’m ok at math’. Middle thinking is kinder and more compassionate. Try to catch yourself the next time you are thinking in extremes!
